*Percent of children ages 6–11 years with obesity: 20.7% (2017-March 2020) CDC

*Researchers forecasted two scenarios of how many kids and teens will be diagnosed with diabetes by 2060:

Constant incidence: If the rate of new diagnoses stays the same, type 1 diabetes cases would remain about the same. Type 2 diabetes cases would increase about 70%.

Increasing incidence: If the rate of new diagnoses continues to increase, type 1 diabetes cases would increase about 65%. Type 2 diabetes cases would increase about 700%! CDC

*In 2022, all U.S. states and territories had an obesity prevalence higher than 20% (more than 1 in 5 adults). Overall, the Midwest (35.8%) and South (35.6%) had the highest prevalence of obesity, followed by the Northeast (30.5%) and West (29.5%). CDC

*US obesity is expected to cost the health system $644 per capita annually from 2020 to 2050 – 14% total American health expenditure. By comparison, Canada will “only” have to spend $295 each year during the same period which equates to 11 percent of its total health spending. OECD

*The United States leads in consumption of fast food with individuals indulging 1-3 times per week, contributing to an annual expenditure of $160 billion. This significant intake is reflected in the habits of 37% of American adults who consume fast food daily and 83% of households that do so weekly. World Population Review 2024
